Strictement 2019

The last weekend in April saw the fourth annual ‘Strictement’ event taking place in front of a packed and excited audience at St Pierre Park Hotel, in aid of St Saviour’s Community Centre.

Over two nights, £15,949.10 was raised and is going towards the building of a Community Hall on the site of a former swimming pool at the Mont Varouf site.

12 couples, each comprising an amateur and a professional, took to the dancefloor to compete. They performed a number of Ballroom and Latin American dances - from the Waltz to the Salsa, which they had been practising since January. The audiences were also treated to a fun-packed array of entertainment with group dances, a winners’ dance from 2018, singing from West End performer Pearce Rogan and his girlfriend Amy Green, and a professional display from Vanessa James and her dance partner Dragos Patrascu, who also judged Saturday’s dance-off final.

Friday evening saw Bachata Tango contestant Mandy Moorman and her partner Leonardo Paucar awarded ‘Best Latin American’, and Quickstep contestant Mark Elliott and his partner Chloe Dyke awarded ‘Best Ballroom’. On Saturday, Salsa competitor Sue Pratt and her partner Karl Dorfner were ‘Best Latin American’, while Viennese Waltz competitor Steve Molnar and his partner Kirsty Bell were ‘Best Ballroom.’

The overall champions of the event were Mandy Moorman and Leonardo Paucar. It also happened to be Mandy’s 50th Birthday. She has loved every minute of her Strictement experience and says, ‘Believe me when I say this birthday will be remembered forever!’

Each year we are staggered by the effort and energy that goes into this fun event, which just seems to get better and better. We are delighted and grateful for the money raised and hugely thankful to our wonderful loyal sponsors, without whom the event could simply not take place. KPMG for the Champagne reception, Swoffers for the amazing table centre pieces, Beckfords and others for the kind donations.

Special thanks also need to go to our patron, Sir de Vic Carey, to Bob Murray, one of the Centre’s Trustees, who created the stunning artwork, to my fellow director Mike Williams for the finance support and my incredible Strictement committee colleagues - Vanessa James, Donna Rogan, Carol Pipet, Jackie Duquemin, Fleur Noyon and Jason Bishop. Our dedicated pro dancers never let us down, this year’s rookie dance competitors have taken to the dance world like ducks to water.
